The advantages of painting from busts and statues are that they are of a uniform colour and texture and usually photographed to show up volume clearly. As you can see from this Cezanne still life this can provide a wonderful opportunity to play with warm and cool hue variations.
They also give us the opportunity of exploring how our foreground and background interact through the use of "lost edges" as in this painting by Catherine Kehoe
