Beautiful still life
Painting by Wayne Thiebaud. When I paint something beautiful I am trying to capture that sense of wonder at the beauty I see. If I paint a landscape my painting has to convert that beauty into another material; from light, wind, scents, distance and so many things into a pigment suspended in some medium that will reflect light when placed on a flat surface. Stationery
Last class we were looking at contemporary still life examples such as these by Andy Warhol and Michael Craig Martin. We used more impacting commercial advertising techniques such as clear outlines and bold backgrounds to redefine our concept of painting a still life. This week our focus turns to office stationery, which has a different aesthetic to the big trainer brands.
