Watercolour portraits class on the 17th of November

Following on from our experience with the Cozens' blots we're going to try our hand at Marlene Dumas portraits. Before you start worrying about likeness have a look at this YouTube clip of Marlene Dumas in her studio:


We'll be looking at harnessing the "accidents" that happen with watercolour in our portraits to become part of the features.

For your homework try to do a set of quick portraits to exploit the qualities of watercolour. if you do a series you can go back to them once they are dry and add more layers, but without attempting to cover "mistakes".

You can choose to use media images or just make them up but in all cases try to build your portraits around the shapes that your watercolour forms.
