Homework for Wednesday 20th of October

Your homework this week is to create a series of vignettes for your Wednesday painting something like the one below by Belgian contemporary artist Michael Borremans

The idea is to get comfortable painting figures loosely and thinking how they relate to the background, in other words, what contrasts do we want in order to dramatize the figure? I'm going to have a go, with the images I put in the last post, but won't make them as detailed as these. I think I'll be replacing the blue and working with raw umber and red mainly.

On Wednesday I hope to choose one of the sketches, but maybe decide to zoom out and make it into a more panoramic scene as in the image below (another Michael Borremans).
