Last class we were looking at contemporary still life examples such as these by Andy Warhol and Michael Craig Martin. We used more impacting commercial advertising techniques such as clear outlines and bold backgrounds to redefine our concept of painting a still life.

This week our focus turns to office stationery, which has a different aesthetic to the big trainer brands. I'm very much enjoying the challenge of using such an old medium such as paint to portray contemporary objects.
I found this almost monochrome painting by Fleur McDonald that uses a sharp shadow and plain background.

I haven't been able to find paintings of hole punches, but I did like the look of this one that would make a very good value study.

I found this Joan Linder painting of a late 90's copier that transmits some of the sleekness of plastic moulded objects.

Many household office equipment comes in bright colours and so we are not limited to grey but rather could investigate its sculptural qualities in a similar way that Peggi Kroll paints these beauty products.
