Service Description

The beginners oil painting beginners course is aimed at new painters, painters looking for a new approach or who want to try out a new technique. The purpose of the courses is to prepare the ground for understanding the mechanisms of figurative painting so that you gain the skills to embark on your own painting projects. Over this courses you will gain a good understanding of materials and paint application techniques. Observation practice exercises and studies from master painters figure largely in the course, and I devise and demonstrate specific painting exercises from resource images or from life that will help you manipulate paint in order to model your subject matter effectively. Slide shows of historical painting movements will help us investigate how and why these mechanisms work and how they can be applied in practice. You will develop an ability to break down objects into dark and light forms and look at how blocking, contrasting values and painting the negative image combine to create the illusion of form.
