Service Description

This 5 week course will introduce you to the techniques used to paint portraits and the human figure as well as the theory that lies behind them. We'll practice how to use light and shadow to describe the head and body as well as look at art-historical examples of master oil paintings to deconstruct what makes them so successful. Painting from carefully chosen resource images, we'll practice how to create the illusion of convincing form and volume. By the end of the course you will have the skills and confidence to embark on your own oil paintings of friends and family and understand the steps to conveying a likeness and characterful mood.
